Julian Plottka works in the project “InvigoratEU - Invigorating Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy for a Resilient Europe” on EU neighbourhood and enlargement policy, in which the IEP has the scientific lead.

Experience

In addition to his occupation at IEP, Julian Plottka is also a Research Associate at the Jean Monnet Chair at the University of Passau, where he is doing his doctorate on strategic cultures. He regularly advises European and German institutions on his research topics. Previously, he worked as a Research Associate at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and as a Senior Researcher at the Institut für Europäische Politik in Berlin. He studied political science at the Universities of Potsdam and Bergen and at the Free University of Berlin.

His research focusses on strategic cultures and the EU’s relations with Central Asia and the states of the South Caucasus. He has worked in the Jean Monnet Network “EUCON – Between Conflict and Competition, Convergence and Cooperation”, as Work Package Lead in the Horizon 2020 project “SEnECA – Strengthening and Energizing EU-Central Asia Relations” and as coordinator of the PhD support programme “The EU, Central Asia and the Caucasus in the International System” and the master’s programme “Studies on the EU and Central Asia in the International System”. He also researches institutional reforms and the democratic legitimacy of the EU. He regularly publishes and speaks on his research topics at international conferences.
