Our chronology provides an overview of all the stages of the protracted negotiations on the Conference of the Future of Europe

On March 4, 2019, the French president proposed a future conference for Europe during the European election campaign. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen promised it to the European Parliament before her election. The Parliament, Commission and Council of the EU have been negotiating ever since. Exactly two years to the day after Macron’s speech, an agreement has been achieved. Our chronology, compiled for the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, provides an overview of all the stages of the protracted negotiations.
