he Republic of Moldova has reached another important milestone on its European reform path with the start of EU accession negotiations. The Moldovan government is working together with civil society to expand its capacities for the accession negotiations and to achieve further reform projects for the country’s EU integration. Against the backdrop of the Russian war of aggression, the referendum on EU membership scheduled for October 2024 and the presidential elections in 2025, the country continues to be the focus of Russian attempts at destabilization.
In order to counter destabilization and disinformation campaigns, a resilient civil society is needed to mobilize the broader society for EU accession. It is therefore important to strengthen civil society structures, in particular concerning their commitment to the European integration process.
The CAPACITY4EU project aims to support the democratic transformation process in the Republic of Moldova. To this end, measures are being adopted to strengthen the skills of Moldovan civil society for its active participation in the EU accession negotiations through negotiation training. The exchange of ideas between state and civil society actors at the local level is supported by local dialogue events. TV debates and the publication of project videos are intended to counteract disinformation about the EU and promote understanding of the integration process. The civil society exchange between the Republic of Moldova and Germany on issues relating to accession negotiations, EU communication and combating disinformation is a central component of the project.
