Civil Society Cooperation

The EU began accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova in June 2024. The project CAPACITY4EU strengthens civil society actors in Moldova for their participation in the negotiations and supports them in further EU integration.

After mass demonstrations in Belarus in 2020, numerous civil society actors had to leave the country. Many of them have settled in Germany and Ukraine. ConnectBY supports their networking and their work for a democratic Belarus.

Georgia was granted EU candidate status in December 2023. However, the path to EU membership is challenging. In this crucial geopolitical moment, the project GEO4EU supports Georgian civil society in the country's EU integration process.

The cooperation between think tanks and politics are strengthened. GURN focuses on knowledge transfer, capacity building and bilateral dialogue. Current developments and German-Ukrainian relations are discussed in a variety of formats.

Fake news and disinformation are increasingly widespread in the Republic of Moldova. This is due to digitalisation and the polarisation of social and political discourse. inforMD strives to counteract misinformation.

The Republic of Moldova was officially designated as a candidate country for the European Union in June 2022.. The NEXT4EU project supports civil society in accompanying European reforms and especially the young generation in engaging in the integration process.

For Ukraine's successful integration into the EU, close cooperation on reforms in the rule of law and fundamental values is crucial. Political dialogue events in Kyiv, Berlin and Brussels promote this and enable the active participation of civil society.

EU accession aspirations of the Republic of Moldova put the country more in the focus of Russian disinformation. reforMD aims to strengthen resilience against disinformation through dialogue between civil society and political actors as well as capacity building at a local level.

The UA Transformation Lab combines research on reconstruction and EU integration of Ukraine with a capacity-building programme on policy analysis and advocacy. It strengthens bilateral dialogue and knowledge transfer between Germany and Ukraine.
