The quarterly journal integration is a theory-driven and policy-oriented interdisciplinary forum on fundamental issues of European integration. It is aimed at anyone involved in these issues in academia, education, politics, administration and the media. It is published by the Institute for European Politics and the Working Group on European Integration in cooperation with an editorial board chaired by Prof. Dr. Frank Schimmelfennig (ETH Zurich).
The editorial team invites authors from the fields of politics, economics, law and history, as well as related disciplines, to submit essays for double-blind peer review. It also encourages young academics to submit their latest research findings for publication.
The editorial board welcomes submissions that are in line with the journal's focus. For 2026, submissions on the following topics are particularly welcome, but not limited to:
- European security order in light of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and developments in transatlantic relations under the Trump administration
- Strategic partnerships: EU trade policy, trading blocs, relations with China, India and the US
- European institutions: preliminary assessment of the EU legislative period, majority constellations and majority-building in the Council of the EU and the European Parliament, and their impact on the adoption of legislative acts, governing within the institutional framework of the EU
- EU Member States: European policy of EU states, German European policy, democratic backsliding, rule of law
- Competition policy: national and supranational strategies (including the Draghi Report and the Letta Report), promotion of innovation, technology and digitalisation, debureaucratisation, classification of legal acts (e.g. Net Zero Industry Regulation, AI Regulation)
- Financial and economic policy: next EU multiannual financial framework (2028–2034), financial and economic implications of the war of aggression against Ukraine
