Carolin Robert, Deputy Federal Chair of the Young European Federalists, talks about the importance of Schengen in the Bundestag elections on 23 February 2025.

Is the freedom of movement in Europe in danger?
Free travelling, studying and working in Europe - for many of us, this is a matter of course. But with the reintroduction and expansion of border controls at Germany's external borders, the Schengen area is coming under increasing pressure. Symbolic politics instead of real solutions? The restriction of freedom of movement affects us all - economically, socially and personally.
For young people in particular, Schengen is one of the EU's greatest achievements. But what happens if we lose this freedom? And why should the issue play a role in the Bundestag elections?
Carolin Robert, Deputy Federal Chair of the Young European Federalists, on the importance of Schengen in the Bundestag elections on 23 February 2025.

The non-partisan Europa-Union Deutschland, the IEP Berlin, the European Federalists and the Federal Network for Civic Engagement shed light on the European implications of the election and show why your vote counts not only for Germany, but also for Europe.
Every vote for a democratic party is a vote for Europe.
