Germany-Ukraine relations – where do we stand?

Pavel Sepi

What are both countries’ expectations towards each other, both politically and socially and what options are there to shape a forward-looking bilateral dialogue? These and other questions will be discussed at the 1st German-Ukrainian Breakfast Debate.

This event is in the past.

Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine has put German-Ukrainian relations to a serious test. Despite bilateral tensions due to the German government’s initial reluctance to provide weapons, Germany is now one of the biggest contributors of arms to Ukraine and provides substantial economic, financial and humanitarian aid. Together with its European partners, Germany has imposed unprecedented sanctions against Russia, is assisting Ukrainian organisations in documenting war crimes and is actively supporting Ukraine on its path to the EU.

At the 1st German-Ukrainian Breakfast Debate, we would like to speak about what further actions need to be taken to advance bilateral cooperation and how Germany can support Ukraine in strengthening its democracy. We will also take up issues less discussed in Germany, such as education and the situation of IDPs in Ukraine.
