The European Union often seems complex – but its key institutions have clear responsibilities and roles. In the “Who’s Who in the EU” series, EUle explains in a concise and easy-to-understand way who is actually responsible for what in the EU.

The focus is on the key institutions: the European Commission proposes legislation and monitors its implementation. The European Parliament represents EU citizens and decides on new laws together with the Council of the European Union. The Council of the European Union brings the governments of the Member States together to negotiate political decisions. This interplay is complemented by the European Council, which sets the broad political guidelines.

The videos provide a quick overview of the roles, composition and significance of the individual institutions. The aim is to make basic knowledge of the EU accessible and to foster a better understanding of European decision-making processes.
