On 6-8 March 2013 the Institut für Europäische Integration organized in cooperation with the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung and the ASKO EUROPA-STIFTUNG an expert-workshop on „Europe and the USA – Strategic Partners for the Future?” in Wildbad Kreuth. Very well known experts from academia and the stakeholder community discussed the relevance of the transatlantic community with regard to the management of global problems, such as energy security and the Arab Spring. The first annual meeting of the German-Portuguese Forum was held at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon on 24 and 25 January 2013. Highlights of the forum, which was attended by approximately 300 participants, were represented by the speeches of the German and the Portuguese Foreign Ministers. These were followed by thematic panels and speeches of policy makers and experts, as inter alia the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Minister of Finance, Steffen Kampeter, and the chairwoman of the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag, Petra Merkel.[more]
The shared interests, challenges and opportunities of Italy and Germany in strengthening the EU’s profile on the international stage were the topics of this joint expert seminar in Rome. The expert seminar was part of a tradition of seminars organised by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in Rome and the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) in Berlin. The meetings serve as a forum for dialogue between practitioners and academics as well as a trigger for discussion and a platform for new ideas to support the development of the EU towards a strong foreign policy actor. On 18th and 19th October 2012, around 55 experts from academia as well as practitioners and policy makers met at Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation in Berlin to discuss the European Union’s development as a foreign policy actor since the coming into effect of the Lisbon Treaty. The conference was organized by the Institut für Europäische Politik Berlin (IEP) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, with the support of the Erasmus Academic Network LISBOAN and the Fritz-Thyssen-Foundation. On the 1st and 2nd of December 2011, the round table conference on the EU’s policy towards authoritarian regimes, organised by the Maastricht University, the Trans-European Policy Studies Association and the Institut für Europäische Politik, took place in Brussels. [more]
On 18 October 2011, a group of 20 students from the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) visited the Institut für Europäische Politik to learn more about the European Union’s policies towards its neighbors and Central Asia and the work of the institute.[more]
The Institut für Europäische Politik e.V. in cooperation with the Policy Planning Unit of the Federal Foreign Office organised an expert workshop on the long term economic perspectives of the Euro zone on the 20th of July 2011.[more]
On July 14-15, 2011, eight young experts met in Berlin to discuss the first drafts of their contribution to the edited volume on “Neighbourhood and Accession-Europeanization – A comparison in Practice”.[more]

Chaired by Elmar Brok, MEP, on 25 June 2010, the Study Group “Enlargement / Neighbourhood Policy” of the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) met in the Representation of Saarland in Berlin. The topic of the meeting "The Treaty of Lisbon: What models of cooperation with the neighbours in the light of consolidation?" dealt with the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and its regional varieties as well as the upcoming enlargements and the European External Action Service (EEAS).[more]
The fight against global warming, the creation of an integrated energy market and the interest in securing energy supply have been the paradigms of European energy policy for some years. A sustainable energy policy should deliver answers on all of these aspects, while, at the same time, being sustainable with a view on future generations. [more]
On 4 and 5 November 2009 the IEP in cooperation with the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) organized an expert conference on the topic "How to improve the European Neighbourhod Policy? Concepts, perceptions and policy recommendations for its Eastern dimension". It took place at the Foundation UNiversitaire in Brussels.[more]
The “2nd International Summer School on Sustainable Development”, which will take place at the European Academy Otzenhausen from the 23rd to 30th of August 2009, is devoted to the topic “Decarbonizing Europe and the World. European Climate Policy - Internal and External Dimensions”. The summer school will deal with the social, political and economic aspects of European climate policy as well as the challenges of international climate policy in the ongoing fight against global warming.[more]

With a duration of three years and thanks to the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo (Turin) this project aims at demonstrating and deepening the convergence of interests of Italy and Germany on current issues of the foreign, security and defence policy of the EU.[more]
On 22 February 2006, the Institute for European Politics and the embassies of Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary presented a podium discussion on the topic "15 Years of Visegrad Cooperation". The ambassadors of the four Visegrad countries to Germany reported their experiences with Visegrad cooperation and discussed their ideas about future perspectives.[more]
