On 2 May 2012, Doris Pack, Chairwoman of the Committee for Culture and Education and a member of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and Kosovo, discussed the numerous challenges of EU integration both individual Balkan countries as well as the region as a whole are facing in an IEP lunch debate entitled “Perspectives on Stabilization and Integration of the Western Balkan States.” Pack emphasized that EU involvement in the area should not be viewed as exclusively altruistic, as a stable southeastern Europe will present much less of a threat to the EU than one festering...[more]
At the IEP lunch debate on 26 April 2012, Elmar Brok, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, spoke on the internal and external challenges of Europe’s future. Brok focussed in particular on Europe’s responsibility to formulate financial and political strategies perpetuating Europe’s stability. In the context of the debt crisis, he appealed for more solidarity to be incorporated into European solution strategies, defined by two key factors: First, Europe must not withdraw from its responsibility to spread and grow common European goals. Dr. Andreas Schockenhoff, deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group of the German Bundestag and chairman of the German-French Parliamentary Friendship Group, spoke about “Germany and France as the old and new core of Europe” at an IEP lunch debate on 23 April 2012. He stressed the significance of Germany and France with regard to the European integration process, even in a union of 27 member states. Conferences in Cooperation with the Academic Directorate
On 18th and 19th October 2012, around 55 experts from academia as well as practitioners and policy makers met at Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation in Berlin to discuss the European Union’s development as a foreign policy actor since the coming into effect of the Lisbon Treaty. The conference was organized by the Institut für Europäische Politik Berlin (IEP) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, with the support of the Erasmus Academic Network LISBOAN and the Fritz-Thyssen-Foundation. Other Activities
On the 1st and 2nd of December 2011, the round table conference on the EU’s policy towards authoritarian regimes, organised by the Maastricht University, the Trans-European Policy Studies Association and the Institut für Europäische Politik, took place in Brussels. [more]
On 18 October 2011, a group of 20 students from the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) visited the Institut für Europäische Politik to learn more about the European Union’s policies towards its neighbors and Central Asia and the work of the institute.[more]
The Institut für Europäische Politik e.V. in cooperation with the Policy Planning Unit of the Federal Foreign Office organised an expert workshop on the long term economic perspectives of the Euro zone on the 20th of July 2011.[more]
On July 14-15, 2011, eight young experts met in Berlin to discuss the first drafts of their contribution to the edited volume on “Neighbourhood and Accession-Europeanization – A comparison in Practice”.[more]

On 4 and 5 November 2009 the IEP in cooperation with the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) organized an expert conference on the topic "How to improve the European Neighbourhod Policy? Concepts, perceptions and policy recommendations for its Eastern dimension". It took place at the Foundation UNiversitaire in Brussels.[more]
The “2nd International Summer School on Sustainable Development”, which will take place at the European Academy Otzenhausen from the 23rd to 30th of August 2009, is devoted to the topic “Decarbonizing Europe and the World. European Climate Policy - Internal and External Dimensions”. The summer school will deal with the social, political and economic aspects of European climate policy as well as the challenges of international climate policy in the ongoing fight against global warming.[more]
