WE&EU project: Young Moldovans from Orhei learned about the Association Agreement and EU Funded Programmes

On 19 November 2019, the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP), in partnership with the Institute for Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE) and the Institute for Strategic Initiatives (IPIS) organized the first EU Awareness Workshop in Orhei in the framework of the project “EU Perceptions and Reality in Moldova (WE&EU)”.The purpose of the workshop was to transfer factual knowledge on the EU Association Agreement in order to counteract existing myths and misinformation and to inform young citizens about EU funded projects in their region and specific application opportunities. The event was attended by around 25 young people from Orhei rayon, including representatives of different ethnic groups.

In the first part of the workshop, the participants were informed about the main provisions of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, but also about the difficulties that Moldova faces in implementing it. Furthermore, a representative of the EU Delegation to Moldova spoke about the specific results of the implementation process, about the projects already implemented in the Republic of Moldova with EU support and about the possibilities that young people have in accessing EU funds.

In the second part of the workshop, the participants had the opportunity to discuss the process of implementing donor-funded projects with current beneficiaries of EU funds in their region. Representatives of the LEADER Network and Local Action Groups also explained the role of the EU in supporting development at the local level in order to revitalize rural areas and create jobs.

The last part of the workshop consisted of an interactive discussion on the myths regarding the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the EU. A special focus was put on the main stereotypes and the distribution of fake news, but also on how citizens, together with their external partners, can contribute to the consolidation of a strong society.

The workshop also featured two videos on success stories produced within the framework of the project:
