“WE&EU” Project Launch: Increasing citizens’ understanding of the EU Association Agreement in the Republic of Moldova

The Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) together with its Moldovan partners, the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE) and the Institute for Strategic Initiatives (IPIS), have successfully launched the project “EU Perceptions and Reality in Moldova (WE&EU)”.

The overall objective of the project is to make a substantial contribution to overcoming the societal dividing lines surrounding the EU rapprochement process in Moldova by promoting informed civil society dialogue on the values and norms underlying the Association Agreement and the concrete benefits of the association process for Moldova and its citizens.

On 31 July 2019 the project partners officially launched the project with an internal meeting for discussing project structures and a formal meeting with relevant stakeholders in Moldova including the EU Delegation and the StratCom project as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, giz and representatives of local media outlets. The fruitful discussions focussed on how to create synergies and increase the impact of the diverse activities of the project, which include the development of fact checks, the organization of citizens’ dialogues in the regions, the implementation of EU awareness workshops for young Moldovans and multipliers as well as the production of videos and TV shows and an exchange with German civil society representatives on best-practices in EU communication.

The project will be implemented between 01 June 2019 and 30 June 2020 and is kindly supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
