Ukrainian Think Tankers from CES and IER visited Berlin
From June 24 to 26 2019 the Berlin Policy Hub welcomed a delegation of the Ukrainian Think Tanks Center for Economic Strategy (CES) and Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER) for an advocacy visit to Berlin. CES und IER deal with economic questions and reform strategies for a sustainable economic development. Their research priorities include foreign trade relations, financial as well as competition policy and the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in Ukraine. CES and IER are members of the Reanimation Package of Reforms (RPR), a coalition of Ukrainian NGOs, which aims at bundling their capacities and expertise for the support of the reform process.
In the context of their stay, Hlib Vyshlinsky, Executive Director of CES, and Dmytro Yablonovskyy, Deputy Director of CES, as well as Oksana Kuziakiv, Chief Executive of IER exchanged views with representatives of the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as well as the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Topics of discussion were the economic outlook and policy developments in Ukraine as well as preliminary assessments regarding the new president Wolodymyr Zelensky’s willingness to continue with the urgently needed reform processes. In addition, the researchers from CES and IER were invited by the Platform for Analytics and Intercultural Communication (PAIC) to share their economic and political assessments with a broader audience during the 13th Ukraine Breakfast Debate of the Institut für Europäische Politik and present their latest joint research paper on the development potential of SMEs in Ukraine, elaborated in cooperation with Dr. Niclas Rüffer (GIZ).
The project Berlin Policy Hub is part of the “Europeanization beyond Process” initiative supported by the Open Society Foundations. The hub established at IEP strengthens the network of researchers and think tankers from Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine with their German counterparts and offers them opportunities to present their expertise and research results in Germany.
