Second episode of the IEP podcast “Eurasia on the Move”!

The  second  episode of our podcast series „Eurasia on the Move” looks at the conse­quences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Tajik­istan and Kyrgyzstan. The absence of a timely reaction by the govern­ments mobilized various civil society actors to take over government roles. To learn more about how this devel­opment will transform the Tajik and Kyrgyz societies in the long-run we interview Azizjon Berdiqulov, Muslimbek Buriev and Sergey Marinin. They are fellows of our Eurasia Lab & Fellowship Program and have made this topic the subject of their research project. The researchers give us their insights about the current dynamics of these devel­op­ments and the prospects they see for these two Central Asian countries.

Azizjon Berdiqulov is a researcher at the European Centre for Minority Issues where he analyses minority-related devel­op­ments in the post-Soviet countries with a focus on Central Asia and is in charge of recruitment and capacity-building of interns for the Minority Map and Timeline of Europe project.

Muslimbek Buriev is a contributing author and editor at the Institute for War and Peace Reporting and consultant for the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia. He is respon­sible for the prepa­ration of quarterly Civil Society Monitor report that tracks all major devel­op­ments, policy changes, economic environment, and engagement of civil society in Tajikistan.

Sergey Marinin is the inter­na­tional office assistant at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek providing all necessary logis­tical and organi­za­tional support in the course of the Alumni Network and is respon­sible for organizing and coordi­nating the Alumni conference, reunions, chapter meetings in Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries.
