First Town Hall Meeting in Comrat on National Identity in Moldova

On Friday, June 23 2017, the first Town Hall Meeting within the framework of the MIDEU-Project on strengthening national identity in Moldova within the process of EU association will take place. In the capital of the autonomous territorial unit Gagauzia, representatives of local and national authorities and of international organizations such as OSCE and the EU will have a debate with members of civil society organizations.

One central topic of this Town Hall Meeting will be the issue of national identity, the related question of minority integration, as well as the concept of a “civic nation” in the Republic of Moldova. Furthermore, participants will discuss the EU’s potential role in this process of identity building.

Following the Town Hall Meeting, there will be a TV-debate of selected participants and the project organizers on the contents and results of the event.

The MIDEU-project is implemented by the Institut für Europäische Politik (Berlin) in cooperation with the Institute for Strategic Initiatives IPIS (Chişinău) and the Institute for European Policy and Reforms IPRE (Chişinău). It is kindly supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
