Fourth PAIC Workshop for Representatives of Ukrainian Think Tanks: “Professional Scientific Standards and Policy Analysis”
Between 24 and 25 May 2018 the fourth workshop within the scope of the project “Platform for Analytics and Intercultural Communication” (PAIC) took place in Kharkiv gathering 15 members of think tanks and NGOs both from the Ukrainian regions and Kyiv. The workshop provided the opportunity to spend two days on deepening the skill set in academic writing and the successful communication of research findings.
Under the competent guiding of the trainers Oksana Huss, PhD candidate at the Institut for Development and Peace (Essen), and Ljudmyla Melnyk, Research Associate at the Institut für Europäische Politik (Berlin), the participants discussed the basics of sound academic research. The program of the workshop was designed in a way to accompany the natural development of a policy paper and combined theoretical aspects with exercises for daily practice.
The first block was therefore dedicated to research designs and the development of a research question followed by a session on argumentative techniques and the structure of a research publication. During the second day, the participants could strengthen their skills in writing abstracts and expand their expertise in addressing foreign audiences in practical exercises.
The workshop was organized within the frame of the project “Platform for Analytics and Intercultural Communication” (PAIC) which is conducted by the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP, Berlin) in cooperation with the International Renaissance Foundation (IRF, Kyiv), the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation (DIF, Kyiv) and the think tank initiative “think twice UA” (Kyiv). PAIC is kindly supported by the Federal Foreign Office in 2017 and 2018.
