Franco-German Dialogue
German-Italian Discussion Fora
Since 1989 the IEP has organised German-Italian discussion fora (German-Italian Dialogue Forum, Villa Vigoni Dialogue and expert seminars). The aim is an ongoing exchange of ideas between high-ranking representatives of government and administration, academia and the business community of both countries. They discuss EU-related topics with a special emphasis on foreign and security policy, European Monetary and Economic Union, the social dimension of the EU and its processes of constitutionalisation. Partner organisations are: Istituto per gli Studi di Politica Internazionale/ISPI (German-Italian Dialogue Forum); Istituto Affari Internazionali/IAI and Compagnia di San Paolo (expert seminars on CFSP/ESDP) and German-Italian Centre Villa Vigoni (Villa Vigoni Dialogue).
German-Nordic-Baltic Forum
On 27th and 28th of September 2012 the fourth German-Nordic-Baltic Forum took place. The conference was entitled “EU Responses to external challenges as seen from Germany, Poland, Nordic and Baltic countries and the EU neighbourhood”. Not only experts from the Baltic States, the Nordic States, Poland and Germany participated in the forum, but for the first time also scientists coming from those countries to which the EU policies are addressed. Thus, a fruitful exchange of ideas and opinions among the stakeholders involved on the contents of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and its perception among the partner states could be achieved....[more]
On May 30-31st, 2011, around 30 experts - both from academia and EU practice - met at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs in Stockholm to discuss “The EU´s Foreign Policy – how to forward internal unity and external strength? Views from Germany, Poland, Nordic and Baltic countries”. Based upon the idea that a more dense exchange of views is needed between policy actors and academia from Germany, the Nordic and the Baltic states the second German-Nordic-Baltic-Forum took place in Berlin on 9 and 10 December 2010. [more]
Am 29. und 30. Oktober 2008 veranstaltete das Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) in Berlin erstmalig das German-Nordic-Baltic Forum. Unter dem Titel "The EU as an International Actor – Foreign Policy Priorities as seen from a German, Nordic and Baltic Angle” versammelte das Forum 45 hochrangige Vertreter aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft, die sich in vier Podiumsdiskussionen über die EU-Russland Beziehungen, die Europäische Nachbarschaftspolitik, Europas Energie- und Klimapolitik sowie die Zukunft des Vertrages von Lissabon austauschten. German-Potuguese Forum
The first annual meeting of the German-Portuguese Forum was held at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon on 24 and 25 January 2013. Highlights of the forum, which was attended by approximately 300 participants, were represented by the speeches of the German and the Portuguese Foreign Ministers. These were followed by thematic panels and speeches of policy makers and experts, as inter alia the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Minister of Finance, Steffen Kampeter, and the chairwoman of the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag, Petra Merkel.[more]
German-Hungarian Forum
The 21st Annual Conference of the German-Hungarian Forum took place on the 14th and 15th October 2011 at the Representation of the Magyar Telekom in Budapest. The Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) organized the conference in cooperation with the German-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DUIHK). The theme of the forum centered on "Aspects of social integration of minorities in Hungary and Germany: possibilities, limits and European framework”. The 20th Annual Conference of the German-Hungarian Forum took place on 4th and 5th November 2010 at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria in Berlin. The 19th Annual Conference of the German-Hungarian Forum took place on 20 and 21 November 2009 at the Andrássy University in Budapest. Main points of discussion were the challenges on the fields of economy, society and foreign policy. This year's forum's headline "20 years of reunited Europe: an analysis and assessment from a Hungarian and German perspective" provided the participants with the opportunity to discuss current issues of European integration. The 16th Annual Conference of the German-Hungarian Forum took place on 10 November 2006 at the Delegation of Brandenburg to the Federation in Berlin. The discussion focused on the need for reform and a better capacity to act for the enlarged Union.[more]

Problems and Perspectives of EU Enlargement: German and Hungarian Positions The event in October 2000 was the 10th Annual Conference of the German-Hungarian Forum, which was founded in 1991. This anniversary conference attracted significant interest, with more than 200 participants from both countries discussing "Problems and Perspectives of EU Enlargement" in Berlin. Villa Vigoni Dialogue
Given the necessity of a fundamental discussion between Italians and Germans on current topics, especially those with EU-relevance, the IEP has established, in addition to the German-Italian Discussion Forum, cooperation with the German-Italian Center Villa Vigoni, which brings together interested parties from politics, business, academia, continuing education and the media from both countries for a continuing exchange of opinions at the Villa Vigoni conference center.
